An older poem, revised

Brief note before the poem — I wrote the first version of this twenty years ago and pulled it out last week. Most of it stayed; the ending didn't.

Returning to the field
after twenty years —
the stones I left
are still here,
but smaller.

Curious whether the bareness reads as restraint or evasion.
